An initial grooming of the trails took place late this afternoon to pack things down, and we are making a second pass on everything this evening.
The snow set up very nicely, and with cool temperatures forecast for the next few days, conditions should be great!
We have groomed for both skate and classic skiing, so there is something for everyone. We hope you will get out an enjoy these great mid-February conditions.
We have worked the snow we received yesterday into the existing snow pack. Conditions are firm and fast, with some icy spots, but overall conditions are fair to good. The lights have been restored on the main 5KM trail, and we are continuing to work with the City of Glens Falls to restore lights in other areas of the park.
The skate and classic skiing is good overall (there are icy spots, but these can be easily avoided), and the main 5KM trail has been cleared of debris from the recent storm. However, there is still more work to be done on the side trails. In addition, a section of lights is out on the 5KM loop from approximately 4-corners to the water towers by the mall. We are currently working with the City of Glens Falls to repair the lines as quickly as possible. In the interim, if you are planning to ski at night, we recommend bringing a headlamp. We will provide future updates here as they become available.
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our several of our volunteer groomers, the main 5KM trail was cleared of debris this morning. The trail was then rolled for skating, and a classic track was also put down. With cold temperatures tonight, the snow should firm up nicely. We hope you have the opportunity to get out and enjoy this fresh new snow!
The trails were rolled yesterday shortly after the snow stopped.
With the freezing rain followed by the heavy snow we experienced today, there are trees, branches and wires down at various spots on the trails. We are currently assessing the situation, and will post a future report.
At this time skiing and snowshoeing are not recommended on the trails due to the potential danger of falling debris from the heavy snow and ice.
The weekend snow was just what we needed to restart the ski and snowshoe season in Cole's Woods!
The trails have been rolled for skate skiing, and a classic track was also put in earlier today. With the cold weather last night, the trails have firmed up nicely and are a mix of powder and packed powder.
Thanks to our dedicated crew of volunteer groomers, the trails have been rolled and groomed for both skate and classic skiing!
The surface is packed powder.
There are still a couple of sections of lights that are currently under repair, so if you plan to ski at night, you may want to bring a head lamp to improve visibility in those sections.
We hope you enjoy this early season skiing in Cole's Woods!
The trails were groomed last night.
A new classic track was set, and the skating lane was also re-groomed.
Conditions are great, and should soften-up as the temperatures rise today and Saturday.
We hope you will be able to get out and enjoy some nice March skiing!
The trails were re-groomed tonight, and new skate and classic tracks were set.
Snow coverage in the woods is excellent, and with moderate temperatures and dry conditions forecast through Saturday, the skiing should continue to be terrific.
The trails were groomed last night for skate and classic skiing and currently feature terrific packed powder conditions. With snow in the forecast for the next two days, and cold weather through next week, we anticipate mid-winter skiing for the next several days. We hope you will get out and enjoy it!
